The church blames both New York and national sports media

(Dallas, TX)  --  First Baptist Church in Dallas reacts to New York Jets player Tim Tebow cancelling a speech there.

TMZ says the megachurch told them Tebow "felt pressure" to back out of the appearance.

The church blames both New York and national sports media, who it says, misrepresented comments the church's pastor, Dr. Robert Jeffress, reportedly made about homosexuality, AIDS and Judaism.

The church told TMZ that Tebow called Jeffress and told him he was cancelling because of a need to "avoid controversy."

TMZ says Jeffress has been described calling Judaism, Islam and Mormonism, religions from the "pit of hell."
